May 2013 Open-Call Civic Reflection Facilitation Training


Civic Reflection Facilitation Trainings help participants learn about and gain hands-on experience in facilitating reflective discussions, using readings, images, videos, and objects. Open-call trainings are led by nationally recognized experts in dialogue and civic discourse, and are open to participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including education, national service, arts and cultural organizations, students, volunteerism, philanthropy, faith and interfaith groups, and many more.

Benefits of the workshop:

  • Concrete facilitation skills— basic mechanics of developing questions and identifying resources, planning and leading discussions, and integrating civic reflection into their work.
  • A Facilitation Handbook with guidelines, tips and answers to frequently asked questions
  • A sample set of diverse texts useful for exploring civic values and activity, including a copy of a CCR publication
  • A new network of colleagues engaged in this practice
  • Connections to CCR’s resources—including access to our staff for ongoing support during your discussion series, as well as to our print publications and our online Resource Library and Facilitators’ Forum
  • Program consultation and ongoing support organizing and leading discussions
  • Potential opportunities to facilitate discussions as a CCR associate
  • An engaging, encouraging, and memorable experience
  • Continuing professional development credits (13.5 CPDU's) are available to participating Illinois teachers

Cost: $250 includes workshop materials and meals
