Humanities Montana Runs State-Wide Civic Reflection Program

May 24 2012

In 2009, Humanities Montana launched their state-wide civic reflection program, "Reflect: Community Readings and Conversation," providing trained facilitators to work with nonprofit, community, and governmental groups looking to reevaluate their values and choices.

From 2010 to 2012, Humanities Montana facilitators have led lively and thought-provoking discussions both in-person and online. Facilitators have used pieces like Bertolt Brecht's poem, "A Bed for the Night," William Carlos Williams' short story, "The Use of Force," and Tony Hoagland's poem, "America" to spark discussions about perserverence and the concept of "duty," and have worked with a range of organizations from the Montana Conservation Corps to the Frenchtown Rural Fire Department to the Montana Women's Prison. CCR has worked with Humanities Montana for the past three years to expand and strengthen this program.
