ServeNebraska Kicks Off Service Year with Civic Reflection Session

May 29 2012

One hundred AmeriCorps members throughout the state of Nebraska celebrated their 2011-2012 service year with a day dedicated to informative trainings and a special swearing-in ceremony by Nebraska First Lady, Sally Ganem.

This ServeNebraska signature event, held in October 2011, included 4 one-hour training sessions for new members. In one of these sessions, ServeNebraska's AmeriCorps/Disability Program Officer, Cathy Plager, and Training Program Officer, Kimberle Hall, presented an overview of civic reflection and co-facilitated a discussion of Andrew Wyeth's painting, "Kalounna in Frogtown." Kim and Cathy were both trained at a Civic Reflection Facilitation Training earlier in 2011.

In addition to leading her session on civic reflection, Kimberle Hall created a combination calendar/journal for the AmeriCorps members to help them incorporate reflection into their year of service.
